A chandelier is the jewelry of a room — and like jewelry, it only takes a little regular care to stay brilliant for decades. This guide walks you through everything: what tools to use, how to deep-clean safely, and how to care for each material — with simple visuals so nothing is left to guesswork.
Golden rule: always clean top to bottom — canopy → chain → frame → shades & crystals.

Deep Cleaning, Step by Step
Once or twice a year. Don't rush — 30–60 minutes for most fixtures.
1 · Switch off & cool down. Turn off the wall switch (breaker for large fixtures) and let bulbs cool fully. Never clean a lit or warm chandelier.
2 · Protect the area below. Spread a blanket on the table or floor — it catches dust and cushions any crystal that slips out of your hand.
3 · Dry dust, top to bottom. Canopy → chain → frame → shades/crystals. Dry microfiber only at this stage — wet cloth on dust makes smears.
4 · Damp-clean glass & crystal. Dampen a cloth with distilled water (or the 1:4 vinegar mix for extra sparkle) and wipe each piece. Hold crystals from below with one gloved hand — lift, never twist.
5 · Buff dry immediately. Follow with the dry cloth so no water spots form. Metal parts get a dry wipe only.
6 · Inspect & relight. While you're up there: check screws, chain links and crystal hooks are snug, then switch back on and enjoy.

Care by Material
Different finishes want slightly different treatment:
Crystal
Distilled water or 1:4 vinegar mix on a cloth, buff dry, cotton gloves on. The vinegar mix restores that "rainbow" sparkle.
✕ Ammonia & alcohol cleaners — they cloud crystal over time
Glass (clear, smoke & hand-blown)
Same as crystal. For textured or hand-blown glass, dust along the grooves with a soft brush first.
✕ Paper towels — they micro-scratch and leave lint
Brass, Bronze & Nickel
Dry or barely-damp cloth only, then buff. Our finishes are lacquered — they're meant to keep their tone, no polishing needed.
✕ Brass polish & abrasives — they strip the lacquer and patina
Alabaster & Natural Stone
Dry microfiber only. Alabaster is a porous natural stone — moisture can stain it permanently. Dust it regularly and it glows for decades.
✕ Water, sprays & any liquid cleaner
Bulbs & Dimmers
Never exceed the wattage marked on your fixture. We recommend warm-white LED bulbs (2700–3000K) — they run cool, protect finishes and crystals, and pair beautifully with a dimmer: bright for dinner, soft for evenings. Switch off before changing bulbs, and support the arm with your free hand.

- Rotate the chandelier to reach the far side — move the ladder
- Use ammonia, bleach or abrasive pads
- Get any liquid on alabaster or into sockets
- Hang anything from arms or crystals
- Exceed the recommended bulb wattage
- Clean while bulbs are hot or power is on
Troubleshooting
Flickering bulb? Switch off, let it cool, reseat the bulb. Still flickering → try a new bulb; if it persists, call an electrician.
Cloudy crystal? Mineral buildup — wipe with the 1:4 vinegar mix, buff dry. Distilled water prevents it coming back.
Fixture swaying or canopy loose? Stop using it and have the mounting checked — 10 minutes for an electrician.
Missing or damaged crystal? Email us a photo — replacement parts are usually available for our fixtures.
When to Call a Professional
For chandeliers on ceilings above 12 feet, large multi-tier pieces, or anything electrical (buzzing, flickering that a new bulb doesn't fix, loose canopy) — bring in a licensed electrician or a chandelier cleaning service. It's a small cost next to the fixture, and your safety is worth more than both.
